Welcome
The Friends of Moorfields is a registered charity, raising funds for the benefit of the patients of the Moorfields Eye Hospital, a world centre of excellence for the specialist treatment of diseases of the eye.
Members come from all walks of life - patients, their relatives and friends, former patients and other well-wishers. Founded in 1963, our primary aim is to provide supplementary services and equipment for the comfort and well-being of patients and their visitors. We contribute towards buying much needed technical items for professional use in the hospital's clinics, outreach centres, operating theatres and research laboratories. We also promote and manage a wide range of volunteer work, supporting the work of the hospital and adding to the service provided. EMMA VEREY and MICHAEL PARKER were installed as Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively at the Friends of Moorfields AGM in November 2007. View pictures in our Image Gallery. See "About Us" for full details of Trustees and officers. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * THE SHANGHAI BALL This year's EYEBALL will enjoy a Chinese theme and will take place at the Hotel Intercontinental in Park Lane on Saturday 22nd November. Renewal is invited from those whose first year of membership has expired - you will find an application form in the current Peacock or by contacting the office. The draws are made on a quarterly basis, shortly after the publication of The Peacock newsletter (late in February, May, August and November). THE NEXT DRAW WILL TAKE PLACE ON FRIDAY 29TH AUGUST 2008. 50% of all income from the Peacock Prize Club boosts the funds of the Friends of Moorfields, helping to continue and expand our work in support of the hospital and its patients. The remaining 50% becomes the "prize pot". The sum available for each draw is allocated to three separate prizes - with the winners receiving, respectively, 60%, 25% and 15% of the pot. TO TAKE PART: Send your payment of £20 (cheques to Friends of Moorfields) to Peacock Prize Club, Friends of Moorfields, 162 City Road, London EC1V 2PD. Friends' Collecting Days are held at London stations and stores with our team of volunteer collectors giving two or three hours of their time to help. We are planning a couple of meetings early in 2009 for existing and new collectors - please contact us if you are interested in attending and possibly joining the team. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ROOMS WITH A DIFFERENCE AT THE RONALD McDONALD HOUSE! Thanks to some splendid work by Marion Cantrell and her team of textile embroiderers, each of the ten bedrooms at the Ronald McDonald House Moorfields - the Children's Centre 5th floor family accommodation unit - now displays a superbly made 3D textile panel. The rooms themselves have been named to correspond with the theme of each design, so young patients and their siblings are able to spend a night or two in The Polar Bears Room or The Heart Room. The designs can be viewed in the "Support for the Hospital" section of our Image Gallery. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * How Can I Get Involved?
